Yashasvi Jaiswal hasn’t learned from you, he has learned from his upbringing: Nasser Hussain to Ben Duckett

Nasser Hussain has responded to Ben Duckett’s claims that Yashasvi Jaiswal has played an aggressive brand of cricket because of England’s talked-about Bazball approach in the purest format of the game.

The left-handed Duckett made the claims before Day 4 of the 3rd Test against India at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Hussain said that Jaiswal has learned from his upbringing, hard work and his performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Jaiswal did not win the Player of the Match award after India won by 434 runs to take a 2-1 series lead. However, he conjured praise from the cricket fraternity for scoring his second double century in Test cricket.

Hussain was of the opinion that England and Duckett should look at how Jaiswal played the masterful knock in the second innings.

“The comment on Jaiswal that he has learned from us, I am going to touch on that. He has not learned from you, he has learned from his upbringing and all the hard yards he has put in while growing up, he has learned from the IPL. If anything, I would look at him and learn from him,” Hussain told Michael Atherton on the Sky Sports podcast.

Jaiswal is currently the leading run-scorer of the series, having racked up 545 runs from 6 innings at an average of 109 and a strike-rate of 81.1.

‘Room for learning and improving’
Hussain said that England should stay open to criticism in the era of Bazball in order to keep improving. He said that a culture where there is no room for feedbacks may turn out to be harmful for English cricket.

“So, whatever they are saying in public and in that dressing room, I hope they are going back into their room with self-introspection. I can look at that lad and learn from him. Otherwise, it becomes a cult, doesn’t it? At times, Bazball has been described as a cult where you cannot criticise either within or externally. Even in this regime, there is room for learning and improving,” he added.

With their back against the wall, England will be looking to make a strong comeback when they face India in the 4th Test, starting February 23 in Ranchi.
