The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, originally scheduled to be held in Bangladesh.

Will now be hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The tournament, which is one of the most anticipated events in the women’s cricket calendar, will take place from October 3 to October 20, 2024, across two premier venues in the UAE: Dubai and Sharjah.

The decision to relocate the event comes after travel advisories from several participating nations raised concerns about hosting the tournament in Bangladesh. Despite the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) best efforts to explore all possible options, the ICC concluded that moving the tournament to the UAE was the most feasible solution. However, the BCB will continue to hold the hosting rights for the event.

“It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event,” said ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice in an official statement. “I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible. However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future.”

Allardice also expressed gratitude to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for stepping in as hosts on behalf of the BCB, as well as to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their offers of support. “We look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026,” he added.

The UAE, which also serves as the home base for the ICC, has increasingly become a central hub for international cricket. The country’s world-class infrastructure, along with its experience in hosting major tournaments such as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021, makes it a fitting venue for this prestigious event.
