Veteran actor Sameer Khakhar, known for playing Khopdi in Nukkad, passes away at 71

Known for his popular character Khopdi in DD hit show in the 80s, Sameer Khakhar passed away in Mumbai.

He was a popular stage, film and TV actor for almost four decades. Samir was 71 years old. However, he was away from acting for a long time now. Sameer had made a comeback after settling in the USA in 1996. His last film was Jai Ho and he was also in a TV show named Sanjeevani.

Sameer started off with Gujarati plays and shot to fame with the TV show, Nukkad. The fame of this iconic 80s show made him a popular character actor. Sameer’s popular TV shows were Circus , Naya Nukkad, Shriman Shrimati, Maniranjan and Adalaat. While he was seen in films like Hasee to Phasee, Patel ko Punjabi shaadi, Pushpak, Parinda and Shahenshah, to name a few.

Sameer Khakar’s funeral took place at Babhai Naka Crematorium in Borivali. He is survived by his wife.

Speaking to Indian Express, Sameer’s brother Ganesh said, “He experienced some respiratory issues yesterday morning. We called the doctor home and he asked to get him admitted. So we took him to the hospital and he was admitted to the ICU. He then had multiple organ failure and today at 4.30 am he collapsed.”

Recently, he was seen in Amazon Prime Video’s Farzi, Zee5’s Sunflower and Sudhir Mishra’s Serious Men.
