Temporary relief for actor Jacqueline Fernandez in ₹200 crore extortion case

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez has got a temporary relief in the ₹200 crore extortion case, in which jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar is the main accused.

A Delhi court granted an interim bail to the 37-year-old actor who has been questioned amid deepening probe in the case.

The Patiala court in Delhi has granted the interim bail to the actor for a bond of ₹50,000. Special judge Shailendra Malik delivered the order. The next hearing in the case would be held on October 22.

Last week, the actor – who hails from Sri Lanka, and has been seen in multiple Bollywood movies – was questioned for over seven hours by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing. It was the second time that the actor had been summoned for questioning by the Delhi Police for her alleged role in the case.

Amid the probe, the actor had admitted before the officers that the jailed conman had paid a huge amount of money to fashion designer Leepakshi.

Her friendship with Chandrashekhar – accused in more than 10 cases – started on WhatsApp in January 2021, and she had secretly met the conman on a number of occasions at a well known hotel in Chennai and other places, she had told the officers, the report further highlighted.

The Delhi Police is also expected to question Fernandez’s stylist Leepakshi to “investigate the money trail of gifts presented to the actor’”.
