Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has announced that he will start shooting for the sequel to his iconic 1983 film Masoom early next year.
The much-anticipated sequel, titled Masoom 2, will see the return of original stars Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah, whose performances in the original film left a lasting impact.
Joining them will be actor Manoj Bajpayee. During a press conference at the 55th International Film Festival of India in New Delhi, Shekhar Kapur shared an exciting update on Masoom 2.
The acclaimed director revealed, “I will start shooting for Masoom 2 in February-March 2025. The script is ready. In fact, I was flying in from Dubai yesterday and I left the script behind on my seat.”
Fortunately, a flight attendant returned it with a heartfelt note, reminding him of the film’s unique place in Indian cinema. Reflecting on the incident, he remarked, “A script that was lost comes back; it’s something predestined.” While the sequel will introduce a new storyline, Kapur assured that it will uphold the same cherished values as the original.
Kapur also shared his wish to re-release Masoom in theaters, aiming to remind audiences of the film’s enduring legacy. Featuring Tanuja, Supriya Pathak, Saeed Jaffrey, along with a young Jugal Hansraj, Aradhana, and Urmila Matondkar, Masoomexplored the deep emotional complexities of family relationships, betrayal, and forgiveness.
