Sensex rises over 300 points, Nifty over 16,200

Sense and Nifty rose on Friday and were set for a third straight weekly gain, led by automaker Mahindra on securing investment for its electric vehicle unit.

While IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was set to kickstart the earnings season later in the day.

The NSE Nifty 50 index was up 0.54 per cent or 86.75 points at 16,219.65, while the S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.56 per cent or 305.13 points to 54,413.3. Both indexes are set for a third consecutive weekly gains, with advances of over 2.5 per cent each.

Mahindra and Mahindra rose as much as 5.4 per cent to a record high, after it said late Thursday that the company and British International Investment would each invest up to $250 million in a new EV unit.

TCS shares slipped marginally ahead of its quarterly results.
