The Panjab University authorities on Wednesday halted the screening of the BBC documentary series on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the campus.
The screening was stopped midway while students were watching it. The documentary was being screened at the university’s student centre by the National Student Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress.
This came amid the ruckus in Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University after members of the Students Federation of India (SFI) announced that they would screen the BBC documentary inside the university campus. This came despite a prior notice by the university administration, asking students to refrain from screening the documentary.
Afterwards, the administration shut down the university’s gates to prevent any unwanted incidents.
Several SFI members were detained following the chaos that ensued and the screening of the documentary was stalled. Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar accused SFI of disturbing peace on campus.
On Tuesday, a similar incident happened in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University after the students union said they will screen the documentary.
