Saif Ali Khan’s attacker identified, took fire escape stairs to enter actor’s home

Saif Ali Khan’s attacker entered the actor’s home through the fire exit staircase with the likely intent to commit burglary and stayed.

There for hours, the Mumbai Police said on Thursday, hours after he was stabbed inside his home in the upscale Bandra area in Mumbai. The 54-year-old actor underwent surgery after a serious injury to the spinal cord; he is currently stable.

The attack took place at 2.30 am in the children’s room where a house help raised an alarm about an intruder. Following this, Saif Ali Khan entered the room and got into a fight with the intruder. The actor was stabbed six times during the fight and the house help also received minor injuries to her hand. The intruder, who has since been identified, fled from the spot and the police have formed 10 teams to locate him.

In an off-camera briefing, Mumbai Police officials confirmed that Saif Ali Khan was taken to the hospital by his family members and staff following the attack.

When questioned about how the accused managed to enter Saif Ali Khan’s residence, the police disclosed that the suspect had been inside the house for several hours prior to the assault. Authorities have reviewed 25 to 30 CCTV footage clips in connection with the case to gather more evidence. The police assured that Saif Ali Khan is now out of danger and recovering well.

CCTV visuals of the unidentified intruder who repeatedly stabbed actor Saif Ali Khan inside his flat have been traced on the sixth floor of the building, news agency PTI reported, citing police sources.

The CCTV footage from two hours before the attack did not show anyone entering his housing society, the police official said.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed based on a complaint lodged by the house help, designating her as the primary complainant in the case. In addition to Saif Ali Khan, a female member of his team was also injured at Saif’s Bandra home. She was also admitted to a hospital, but was discharged after treatment, police said.

“The incident took place last night when an accused entered Saif Ali Khan’s house. The accused used the fire escape stairs to gain access to the house. It appears to be an attempted burglary. He entered the house using stairs, which also served as a fire escape. The accused has been identified,and ten teams are currently working on the case,” the local area’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dixit Gedam, said while speaking to the media on the issue.

Five members of Saif Ali Khan’s staff are being questioned for additional details by the Mumbai Police, sources said. There was renovation work going on in Saif Ali Khan’s housing society and the labourers involved in the work have also been questioned by the Mumbai Police, sources said to India Today TV.

According to the police, the security guard of the residential society did not see anyone entering the society. After the attack on the Bollywood actor, a forensic team of the Mumbai Police reached the spot and collected all the evidence from the spot, the DCP said. Visuals from the spot also showed Mumbai Police officials recording the statements of the locals after the attack.
