It might take Rishabh Pant up to 2 years to play for India again, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has revealed.
Ganguly who is with the Delhi Capitals in a management role for the upcoming Indian Premier League season, revealed the details in an interview with news agency PTI.
Ganguly said that it would be tough to fill the void left by Rishabh Pant in the Delhi Capitals side, and the team has not finalised his replacement as of yet. The former batter said that he spoke to Pant a couple of times since his horrific accident in December 2022.
“I spoke to him a couple of times. Obviously he is going through a tough period, through injuries and surgeries and I wish him well. In a year’s time or may be in a couple of years’ time, he will be back playing for India,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.
DC is yet to announce Pant’s replacement and Ganguly is still undecided on who is better between young turk Abhishek Porel and domestic veteran Sheldon Jackson.
“We still need a bit of time to figure out. The next camp starts before IPL,” Ganguly said.
DC are in the mission to find a captain and it is possible that Australian opener David Warner might be given the position due to his experience.
DC held a three-day camp at Kolkata where the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ishant Sharma, Chetan Sakariya, Manish Pandey were seen along with other domestic players.
“The IPL is still a month away and the season has just started. It is difficult to get all the players together for the amount of cricket they play. There are four or five who are playing Irani Trophy. Sarfaraz has an injured finger and it’s not a broken finger. He should be okay for the IPL,” he concluded.
