Two advocates in Mumbai have filed a complaint at Ghatkopar police station against.

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and his family members for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and insulting the “Sanatan Dharm”, referring to a Christmas celebration video.

The complaint filed by advocate Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra refers to a viral video of Ranbir Kapoor in which he is seen lighting a cake and saying “Jai Mata di” while someone had poured wine on it.

Ranbir Kapoor, along with his immediate and extended family, was seen at the annual Christmas lunch at Kunal Kapoor’s residence.

Kunal Kapoor can be seen sitting in front of the Christmas cake while Zahan Kapoor, who made his debut with ‘Faraaz’ earlier this year, pours wine over it. After he is done, Ranbir Kapoor lights up the cake and says ‘Jai Mata Di’.

In Hinduism, fire god is invoked before invoking other deities, but Kapoor and his family members deliberately used intoxicants prohibited in Hindu religion while celebrating the festival of another religion and chanted “Jai Mata Di,” the complaint said.

This hurt the complainant’s religious sentiments, it added.

The complaint alleged that this type of criminal act has hurt the religious sentiments of the complainant and Sanatan Dharmis. The advocates asserted that law and order could be jeopardised by the circulation of such unsettling videos.

The complaint seeks to register an FIR against Kapoor under section 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) 298 (Uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) 500 (defamation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) as the entire Kapoor family was celebrating Christmas together.

However, no FIR has been registered so far against the Kapoors based on the complaint.
