Prajwal Revanna had diplomatic passport, no clearance issued by us: Centre

The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing probe on allegations of sexual abuse, did not seek political clearance for his Germany trip.

Addressing the weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “No political clearance was either sought from or issued by MEA in respect of the travel of the said MP to Germany. Obviously, no visa note was issued either. No visa is required for diplomatic passport holders to travel to Germany. The Ministry has also not issued any visa note for any other country for the said MP…Yes, he travelled on a diplomatic passport.”

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister and JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda, went to Frankfurt, Germany on April 26. He left the country amid allegations of sexual abuse levelled against him.

Prajwal Revanna, who is seeking another term from Hassan in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, is in the middle of a controversy after some explicit videos went viral on social media purportedly showing him. However, Revanna has claimed that the viral videos were morphed and also filed a complaint in this regard via his polling agent.

The Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged sex scandal involving Hassan MP. On Thursday, the SIT issued a lookout notice against him at all immigration points across the world.

Revanna, who was supposed to appear before the SIT today, filed a plea with a sessions court in Bengaluru seeking anticipatory bail.
