Independent Lok Sabha MP from Bihar’s Purnia Pappu Yadav, who has been on the hit-list of the gangster Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has received another death threat.
The warning, delivered via WhatsApp, came from a number linked to Pakistan, threatening that Yadav would be killed within the next 24 hours. The sender of the message also claimed that even his guards would be powerless to protect him. Accompanying the threat was a photograph of an explosion.
Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Pappu Yadav said that this was not the first instance of such death threats issued to him. “I have received multiple death threats over the past few months,” he said, urging the government to investigate how such messages were being sent by Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail.
Hitting out at the central government, Pappu Yadav said, “What is the reason behind this? Why does he want to kill me? Who is the one who wants to get me killed? There will be someone who will find him. The responsibility for this lies with the IB and RAW. You [the government] don’t give security to us but provide it to Kangana Ranaut and others. Fulfill your responsibility of investigating. Are we not citizens of this country? Don’t we stand up for the law and the Constitution?”
“If this is the punishment for speaking the truth, then I am ready to bear such punishment a thousand times,” he added.
The threats against Yadav reportedly began after he extended support to Bollywood actor Salman Khan on X. Yadav assured Khan of his backing amidst threats to the actor’s life from the Bishnoi gang.
The Bihar politician, who has several criminal cases against him, even challenged the Lawrence Bishnoi gang after it claimed responsibility for the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai in October. Siddique was close to Salman Khan, and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed that to be the reason behind his murder.
