‘Pakistan ISI Abducts Baloch People Whenever They Protest’: Activist Munir Mengal Speaks On Mahrang Arrest
Baloch activist Munir Mengal has said that the Baloch people have been facing killings and disappearances for a long time.
“Whenever Baloch people protest, the ISI abducts them to silence their voices. This situation has led to protests by Baloch women from Islamabad to Karachi, voicing concerns over disappearances happening in broad daylight, with no investigations allowed.”
Mengal mentioned their approach to international courts and said that they have already sent documents to various bodies and human rights commissions over the arrest of Baloch activist Mahrang Baloch. He said he has written to 16 European Parliamentary Members about the issue and announced plans to protest worldwide.
Protests have erupted across Pakistan following the arrest of prominent Baloch human rights activist Mahrang Baloch. These protests show widespread outrage against state crackdowns and systemic oppression in Balochistan. Protesters marked March 27 as Black Day.
Demonstrations have taken place in various parts of Sindh and Balochistan, including Quetta, Karachi, and Gwadar. Protesters are demanding Mahrang’s immediate release and an end to enforced disappearances in Balochistan.
These protests have led to clashes with security forces, resulting in casualties and numerous arrests. Karachi police have banned all protest gatherings in the city and carried out widespread arrests without summons.
Top Indian intelligence sources report that Mahrang Baloch’s arrest has become a flashpoint for broader Baloch demands for justice and autonomy. They stated that the Pakistani government labels these actions as counter-terrorism measures, but they actually repress peaceful dissent.
The ongoing protests in Balochistan represent a critical moment in the region’s struggle and call for global intervention to address human rights abuses. Such behavior towards any female protester is unheard of in a democratic country and exemplifies an abuse of state power, sources said.
