‘No Credibility’: India Rejects US Media Report On Maldives President’s Impeachment Plot

India on Friday outrightly rejected the US media report claiming that the Maldives opposition sought $6 million from New Delhi to effect an impeachment of President Mohamed Muizzu.

The Ministry of External Affairs termed the reports “baseless” and “without credibility”, stating that both the United States’ newspaper and the reporter displayed a “compulsive hostility towards India”.

“These articles that you referred to were published by the Washington Post, one on Maldives and the other one in relation to Pakistan. So to that, I would say that both the newspaper and the reporter in question appear to nurse a compulsive hostility towards India. You can see a pattern in their activities. I leave you to judge their credibility. As far as we are concerned, they have none,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a weekly press conference.

What Was The US Media Report?
he Washington Post had cited an internal document named ‘Democratic Renewal Initiative’ and claimed that the opposition in Maldives had proposed bribing as many as 40 MPs, which also included those from Muizzu’s party, as part of the alleged impeachment plot.

The report had also claimed that a senior official from the Indian intelligence agency R&AW “explored” a plan to oust Muizzu months after he assumed office.

MEA On Covert Killings Of Terrorists In Pakistan
Reacting to Washington Post’s report claiming that India had executed the covert killings (using unknown gunmen) in Pakistan taking down Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorists, Jaiswal quoted a statement by former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “You can’t keep snakes in your backyard and expect them only to bite your neighbors”.

Several terrorists were gunned down, reportedly by unknown gunmen, in the past few months in Pakistan.
