The prime minister is being fooled by Gautam Adani, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra told India Today TV today.

The firebrand leader also clarified that she has never alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is involved in the case. “I have never for one minute said that the prime minister is involved. I have said yesterday in my speech that the prime minister is being fooled,” Moitra said.

Explaining her stand, Moitra further added: “This man is travelling with you everywhere. Everyone thinks this man is close to you. So if he is not close to you, tell us he is not close to you. Tell us he hasn’t travelled with you. Tells us you have nothing to do with him. Tell the Sebi to do an investigation. Ask for a court-monitored investigation. Give us the answers.”

“There is nothing personal,” the MP said, adding: “If he has won something by tender, nobody is saying anything to that. Why was Dhamra Port handed over to Adani without a tender? When I wrote a question in the parliament, the answer came back that it was not granted by tender but after prolonged commercial negotiations. This is nothing personal.”

Clarifying her party’s stand on the issue, Moitra said: “The Trinamool’s stand has been absolutely clear on this. We want a free and fair investigation into this. We want a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into this. Yesterday our party demonstrated outside the LIC headquarters. Today we have demonstrated outside SBI headquarters.”

The Adani Group has been accused of fraud and stock manipulation by a US-based short-seller, triggering a massive market rout.
