Nepal’s newly elected President hospitalised following stomach ache, under observation

Nepal’s newly elected President Ram Chandra Poudel has been admitted to Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu’s Maharajgunj, ANI reported, quoting hospital authorities.

According to the official statement from the hospital, Paudel complained about a stomach ache, after which he was brought to the hospital.

“He is under observation of the doctors and was admitted to the hospital late on Saturday,” a release from the hospital stated.

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel was sworn in as the President of the country just two weeks back. Ram Chandra Poudel was elected by members of the Federal Parliament and provincial assemblies.

While Paudel secured 33,802 electoral votes, his rival Subash Chandra Nembwang secured 15,518 electoral votes, according to Nepal’s Election Commission.

A central committee member, he is a noted author who has published several books and is also a recipient of several literary awards. Poudel is a former Speaker of the Pratinidhi Sabha (House of Representatives), the lower house of the Parliament of Nepal.

He has also served multiple terms as a Member of Parliament (MP).

Ram Chandra Poudel held crucial portfolios, such as the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, among others. He spent years of his life fighting for democracy in the country.

Poudel is married to Sabita Poudel, and they have four daughters and a son.
