The two teachers arrested in Maharashtra’s Latur in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case would crack a deal with candidates for Rs 5 lakh to get them passed in the medical exam.
The teachers, Sanjay Tukaram Jadhav and Jaleel Umrakhan Pathan, were arrested in Latur district on Saturday night. Latur is a major educational hub for students preparing for the NEET. While Jadhav is a teacher at a Zilla Parishad School in Solapur, Pathan is a teacher at a school in Katpur village.
The modus operandi of the gang came to light after interrogation of the accused. The duo would take Rs 50,000 in advance and the remaining amount was to be given by the candidate after they “passed” in the exam.
After candidates send the advance money, their admit cards are handed over to a person called Iranna Mashnaji Kongalwar, an ITI instructor, from Dharashiv district. Iranna would then send the admit cards to one Gangadhar in Delhi, the fourth accused in the case. Gangadhar, who is well-connected, got the candidates passed in the NEET exam.
Two teams of Latur Police have been sent to Delhi and Nanded to nab Iranna and Gangadhar.
On June 23, an FIR was registered against Sanjay Jadhav, Jalil Pathan, Iranna, and Gangadhar under Sections 3(v), 4, 10 420, 120 of The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024 at Shivaji Nagar Police Station in Latur city.
Both Sanjay Jadhav and Jalil Pathan have been sent to police remand till July 2.
