About half the population across the planet is into gaming, says Microsoft.

The tech giant recently launched new features for its Edge browser on Windows 11 and 10 and has created a gaming homepage, which includes gaming news, live streams, Xbox content, and quick access to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

“We’re building a platform for the next 20 years that offers the games players want on any device they want to play,” reads a blog on the update. The update comes almost two weeks after the tech giant shut down its oldest and once-dominant browser – the Internet Explorer (IE).

A lowdown on the new features:

A user can now get to gaming as soon as the browser is launched. “It is personalized to your interests and designed to keep you connected to the content you care about like news, game guides, live streams, game highlights, tournaments, and upcoming and newly released games,” reads the blog.

Microsoft Solitaire, Microsoft Mahjong, Microsoft Jewel, and Microsoft Edge Surf Game are some of the free-to-play casual and arcade games on the dedicated ‘Games’ menu.

Clarity Boost is said to be an “exclusive feature to Microsoft Edge that enhances console games with Xbox Cloud Gaming”. An efficiency mode feature called ‘Microsoft Edge Efficiency Mode’ will also be installed to improve gaming performance.

The new version of Edge has some Xbox-exclusive features wherein users will be able to log in to their Xbox account and check for ‘recently-played’ games, as well as upcoming releases.

Meanwhile, as Microsoft has managed to establish its Microsoft Edge browser, it still does not have a large market share. Currently, the Chrome browser dominates around 65 percent share of the worldwide browser market, followed by Apple’s Safari with 19 percent, according to internet analytics company Statcounter, reported news agency AP.
