One Rajya Sabha and 13 Lok Sabha MPs were suspended for “unruly conduct” in Parliament.
Manickam Tagore, Kanimozhi, PR Natrajan, VK Sreekandan, Benny Bahanan, K Subramanyam, S Venkatesan, and Mohammad Jawed are among the Parliament members who were suspended from the Lok Sabha. Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien is the lone MP suspended from the Rajya Sabha.
Among the 14 MPs suspended, nine are from Congress, two from CPM, one each from DMK, the CPI and TMC.
It was earlier reported that 15 MPs were suspended, including DMK leader SR Parthiban. However, his name was later removed from the list of Parliamentarians who were suspended. The development came after his party leaders alleged that Parthiban was not present in the House.
DMK MPs have claimed that Parthiban was named among the suspended MPs even as he is not present in Delhi and is in Chennai, as per sources.
All the suspensions are linked to the Opposition’s protests within Parliament over Wednesday’s security breach in Lok Sabha. The protests stalled proceedings in both the Houses on Thursday forcing repeated adjournments.
