West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee asserted that her party would back the Opposition INDIA bloc from “outside” to form a government at the Centre.

The statement comes weeks after Mamata Banerjee stated, “There is no INDIA alliance in West Bengal. I played a key role in the formation of the opposition alliance INDIA. Even the name of the alliance was given by me. But here in West Bengal, the CPI (M) and Congress are working for the BJP.”

She reiterated her earlier remark on Wednesday, saying, “Do not count on the CPI(M) and the Congress in Bengal. They are not with us, they are with the BJP here.”

Mamata Banerjee attacked the BJP, calling it “a party full of thieves”. She said that the party would fail to achieve its ambitious electoral target of “400 paar”.

“BJP is claiming that it will win 400 seats, but people are saying it will not happen. The entire country has understood that the BJP is a party full of thieves. We (TMC) will support the INDIA bloc from outside to form a government at the Centre. We will extend our support so that in (West) Bengal, our mothers and sisters never face a problem… and those who work in the 100 days’ job scheme, also do not face problems,” the Chief Minister said.

“I am talking about that (INDIA bloc) in Delhi,” she clarified.

Mamata Banerjee said that her party would support the INDIA bloc to form a government at the Centre. She also vowed to repeal the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and stop the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) once the BJP government is voted out of power.

The rift among INDIA bloc partners has led to a three-way contest in West Bengal between the Trinamool Congress, BJP, and Congress-Left combine.
