Maharashtra and Jharkhand election dates to be announced today

The Election Commission will announce the schedule for Assembly elections for Maharashtra and Jharkhand today, a statement by the poll body said on Tuesday.

A press conference has been called by the poll body officials today at 3.30 pm where the schedule of Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand will be announced.

“Press Conference by Election Commission of India to announce the schedule for General Election to Legislative Assemblies of Maharashtra and Jharkhand 2024,” a statement by the poll body said.

The tenure of the 288-member Maharashtra assembly is ending in November this year, while the tenure of the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will end on January 5, 2025.

In Maharashtra, Eknath Sinde-led Mahayuti alliance is hopeful of winning another term with its allies — Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).

Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), is aiming to return to power in the western state.
