India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill took a sensational catch to dismiss Harry Brook during the second ODI against England on Sunday, February 9 at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.

Gill helped to break a 66-run stand between Harry Brook (31 off 52) and Joe Root with his remarkable effort as India got their third success after England opted to bat first.

Brook, who hasn’t had a memorable tour so far, was batting cautiously in the middle with an aim to stay at the crease for as long as possible. He finally decided to break loose, trying to go big against Harshit Rana on the fourth ball of the 30th over. However, he was outfoxed by a slower delivery by the Indian speedster and ended up hitting the ball in the air towards long off.

Gill, who was stationed at mid-off, completed a mind-boggling catch, running backwards to send the English batter back to the pavilion. The Indian vice-captain kept his eyes on the ball as he sprinted at lightning speed and timed his dive to perfection to pouch the ball safely in his palms. His fielding effort left everyone in the stadium awestruck as he was cheered on by the delirious crowd.

Earlier in the first ODI, Yashasvi Jaiswal also took a breathtaking running catch at square leg to dismiss Ben Duckett helping Harshit Rana get his maiden ODI wicket on debut. Meanwhile, England once again got off to a flying start in the second match with openers Philip Salt (26 off 29) and Ben Duckett (65 off 56) adding 81 runs for the first wicket off 66 balls.

Debutant Varun Chakravarthy helped India get a breakthrough in just his second over making Salt hit one straight to Ravindra Jadeja at mid-on. Duckett was also dismissed for 65 by Jadeja, while Joe Root also brought up his 40th ODI fifty. After 40 overs, England were 230/4 with Root (56*) and Liam Livingstone (6*) at the crease.
