The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against unknown persons in connection with a low-intensity blast that occurred near the Israel embassy in the national capital on Tuesday amid the Hamas war.

The case was lodged at Tughlak Road police station.

On Wednesday, a team from the National Security Guard (NSG), NIA and the Delhi Police Special Cell respectively were present at the spot for investigation.

Samples of leaves, plants and soil were taken from the spot and a probe was on to determine the nature of the explosion and what explosive was used for the blast.

The NSG may soon submit a report on the blast to the Delhi Police.

According to officials, the blast occurred in front of Nanda House, about 250 metres away from the Israel embassy in Chanakyapuri, the city’s diplomatic enclave, around 5:45 pm on Tuesday.

No one was injured in the incident and an “abusive” letter addressed to the Israeli ambassador was found near the site, officials said. The incident took place against the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Sources said two suspects were caught on CCTV near the blast site and efforts were on to track their movements and arrest them.

On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said relevant agencies were looking into the incident.

“The agencies concerned are looking into the matter. Let them finish their investigations,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

When asked about Israel suggesting a possibility of Iran’s involvement in the blast, he said, “I certainly am not aware of anything that you mentioned about blaming particular entities or countries.”

“I am not going to comment on what other countries might be saying,” he added.
