Irfan Pathan filled with pride after son, nephews turn player escorts at World Cup Final

Irfan Pathan, the former Indian cricket all-rounder, recently took to social media to express his heartfelt gratitude towards the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

His message was one of thanks for a particularly special occasion during the ICC World Cup 2023. His son Imran, along with his nephews Ayaan and Raiyaan, were given the honour of being player escorts at the event.

The photograph showed the young trio standing on the cricket field during the national anthem. “Witnessing my son Imran, and my nephews Ayaan and Raiyaan, standing proudly for the National Anthem on the field is a memory that will last a lifetime. Grateful to @ICC @BCCI for this unforgettable moment,” Irfan wrote, sharing his joy and appreciation for the gesture by the cricket governing bodies.

Irfan’s presence at the World Cup was felt in more ways than one. Known for his insightful commentary, he was part of the broadcasting team and gained recognition for his accurate match predictions.

Irfan also caught attention for his celebratory dance with Rashid Khan, the Afghan cricketer, following Afghanistan’s victory over Pakistan in Chennai. This light-hearted moment went viral, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and joy that sports can bring.

The World Cup final took place in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. The final battle was between India and Australia and the latter came out victorious.
