Indian-American Tara Sreekrishnan to run for California state assembly

Tara Sreekrishnan, a 30-year-old Democrat and community leader of Indian origin, has garnered significant endorsements for her bid.

In the California State Assembly race for District 26. Serving previously as a legislative director and deputy Chief of Staff in the California State Senate. Tara officially launched her campaign last month with a focus on crucial issues like housing affordability, climate change, and challenges within the education system.

Announcing these endorsements on the social media platform X, Tara expressed her delight at receiving support from the local firefighters.

“I’m delighted to announce that my campaign for California State Assembly District 26 has received the endorsement of our dedicated firefighters in Santa Clara – the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1171,” she said.

In addition to the firefighters’ endorsement, Tara secured support from notable figures such as California Assembly majority leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors President Susan Ellenberg, and the California Labor Federation.

Tara emphasised her commitment to addressing key priorities, including making neighbourhoods safe, supporting older adults, tackling housing affordability, addressing climate change, alleviating traffic congestion, and reforming the education system.

On her campaign website, she stressed the importance of utilising tax dollars efficiently and effectively to meet these challenges, stating, “Addressing these challenges – and spending tax dollars efficiently and effectively – is why I’m running for State Assembly.”

Inspired by her immigrant parents, Tara highlighted the values of education and community involvement instilled in her upbringing.

Currently serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Education, overseeing 270,000 students across 31 school districts, Tara brings a wealth of experience. She has served as a top aide and advisor to a state senator in the legislature and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

The campaign underscored her role in drafting and passing various legislation and successfully navigating bureaucratic processes on behalf of constituents.
