IND-W vs WI-W: Smriti Mandhana eyes T20I history in series decider vs West Indies

Smriti Mandhana is on the cusp of making a massive record in T20Is.

When India and West Indies face off in the third and final match on Thursday, December 19 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The left-handed batter is on the verge of making the record for most runs in Women’s T20Is in a calendar year.

Currently, Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu holds the record, having scored 720 runs this year at an average of 40 and with two centuries and a top score of 119 not out. Mandhana is only 34 runs short of the landmark. In 22 T20Is this year, she has scored 686 runs at an average of 40.35 with seven fifties to her name.

UAE’s Esha Oza (711 in 2024), West Indies captain Hayley Mathews (700 in 2023), and UAE’s Kavisha Egodage (696 in 2022) also feature in the list. Earlier, Mandhana also broke Harmanpreet Kaur’s record for most runs by an Indian in Women’s T20Is in a calendar year.

Smriti Mandhana in brilliant form
Mandhana has been on top of her game in the T20I series against the West Indies. She is currently the top run-scorer in the series, having scored 116 runs from two games at an average of 58. Mandhana began the series with a 54-run knock, helping India take a 1-0 series lead.

She made 62 on Tuesday, but India slumped to a nine-wicket defeat. Recently, she also notched an ODI hundred against Australia at the WACA in Perth.
