Imran Khan Opens Up On Divorce From Ex-Wife Avantika, Says He Married ‘Very Young’: ‘We Were Not Supporting…’

Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran Khan was a popular Bollywood actor in the 2000s and was once considered the next big thing in the industry.

While many actors of his time kept their relationships private, Imran stood out by marrying his longtime girlfriend Avantika during his peak years. However, their marriage ended after some time. In a recent interview, Imran shared that since their relationship began when they were teenagers, many of their habits and ways of interacting stayed the same and didn’t grow with them. He explained that by the time they separated, he had already started focusing on his mental health.

Speaking to Filmfare, he said that he entered the relationship at 19, with good intentions. But over time, the relationship didn’t evolve in a healthy way. “I entered this relationship when I was very young. I was 19, and in all good faith and good intention. But as is sometimes the case with these kinds of long-term relationships, particularly when you start at a very young age, a lot of the interpersonal dynamics and patterns get set in how you were as a teenager and as you grow, perhaps, I think all of those did not grow and evolve enough and in some way, we were not supporting or empowering each other to be the healthiest version of ourselves.”

Imran also opened up about his relationship with his 10-year-old daughter and said they share a very close bond. He said he wanted her to feel safe, supported, and able to talk to him about anything without being scared of judgment. “My daughter and I have formed a tremendously close and open relationship, which is something that I have really wanted to grow and develop my relationship in that way. I wanted her to have a sense of comfort and security, to have the sense that I am there for her, I got her back, but also the sense that she should feel easy and open about talking to me without the fear of judgement,” he said.

Imran said there are moments with his daughter that mean a lot to him. At bedtime, when it’s quiet, she talks to him about her feelings. “She has spoken to me about emotional parts of herself. At night, when you are putting them to bed and the lights are dimmed, you have those 5-10 minutes of… it’s a safe, intimate space where she will talk to me about the feelings in her heart and at times, I have been so overwhelmed by the idea, by the fact that she is sharing that with me. That is priceless,” she said.

Imran Khan is now in a relationship with girlfriend Lekha Washington. Imran Khan and Avantika Malik got married in 2011. After eight years of marriage, they decided to separate in 2019.
