Heavy rainfall, thunderstorm leads to waterlogging in Delhi-NCR; more showers expected

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Tuesday morning in Delhi-NCR led to waterlogging in several parts.

The waterlogged streets are likely to create traffic congestion for commuters during peak office hours. Several parts of Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, received heavy rainfall in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to the weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain will occur over adjoining areas of the entire Delhi and NCR, Gannaur, Meham, Tosham, Rohtak, Bhiwani (Haryana) Baraut, Shikarpur, Khurja (UP) in the next two hours. Heavy intensity rain is also expected to occur over isolated places.

The weather department also said thuanderstorms with heavy intensity rain would occur over adjoining areas of NCR (Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad).

“Light intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi ( Lajpat Nagar, Malviyanagar, Kalkaji, Tughlakabad, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, Deramandi), NCR ( Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh) and Uttar Pradesh’s Deoband, Muzaffarnagar, Khatauli, Sakoti Tanda, Daurala, Meerut, and Modinagar,” Met predicted.

The Met office on Monday issued a ‘yellow’ alert for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and a wet spell has been predicted in the state till April 6.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department had said that most of India, barring parts of the northwest and peninsular region, is expected to experience above-normal maximum temperatures from April to June.
