England’s rising star Harry Brook completed his 8th Test century on Day 1 of the 2nd Test against New Zealand in Wellington on December 6, Friday.
He continues to enjoy a successful year in red-ball cricket as he completed 1,000 runs in 2024. Brook joined the likes of Yahsasvi Jaiswal and Joe Root to become the 3rd batter to cross 1,000 runs in Test cricket in the year 2024. In 11 Tests, the England star has an average of over 64 with four hundreds and two fifties to his name.
Meanwhile, Brook’s compatriot, Root, stands tall in the list with 1364 runs in 16 Tests at an average of 54.56 with five hundreds and four fifties. Jaiswal, on the other hand, has scored 1280 runs in 12 Tests with three hundreds and seven fifties. Brook walked into bat when England were in a precarious situation at 26/3. Despite losing the top-order early on, including Root departing for 3, Brook played a counter-attacking innings. He shared a 174-run stand with Ollie Pope.
Brook played a fluent knock as he reached the three-figure mark within 91 balls. He received a roaring cheer from the Basin Reserve crowd. Brook took off his helmet, raised his bat to all corners of the ground. He looked at the heavens with the bat pointed, which could be a gesture to his late grandmother.
Harry Brook’s brilliant hundred
A freak of nature.
Unfortunately, Brook was run-out at 123 runs from 115 balls due to no communication with his partner Chris Woakes. However, aprt from Brook’s century, only Pope was another stand-out with his 66-run knock. None of the other batters contributed as England were bowled out for 280 runs.
