Jailed gangster Tillu Tajpuriya, accused in the Delhi Rohini court shootout, was killed after rival gang members attacked him in Tihar’s Mandoli jail on Tuesday, prison officials said.
Police sources said that Yogesh alias Tunda, alleged to be a sharp shooter of the rival Jitender Gogi gang, and his partner Deepak Teetar attacked Tajpuriya with an iron rod.
Tajpuriya was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in the national capital, where he was declared dead, officials said. Hospital authorities said the gangster was brought in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead at around 6:30 AM.
A police investigation into the incident is underway.
Sunil Mann alias Tillu Tajpuriya headed a notorious criminal gang in Delhi and was arch-rivals with another equally notorious gang led by most wanted gangster, Jitender Gogi. In 2015, ‘Tillu’ was arrested by Sonipat Police and put behind bars.
On September 24, 2021, Gogi was gunned down inside a courtroom in Delhi’s Rohini court by two of Tajpuriya’s associates, who came dressed in lawyers’ garb.
Gogi died on the spot, while his two killers were shot dead by police inside the courtroom. Tajpuriya, who was already in jail for another offence, was questioned as the prime conspirator.
The Gogi and Tajpuriya gangs have been embroiled in bitter strife for about a decade. During these 10 years, more than two dozen people have died in clashes between the two groups. Members of the two gangs who have been arrested have been implicated in cases of contract killings, extortion, robbery and carjacking.
