England’s winless run against United States of America continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw in the FIFA World Cup on Friday, 26 November.

A frustrating night for England who were not given much of a sniff by the American side, as they remained at the top of the table with four points from two games.

Coming into the match, USA captain Tyler Adams had said that he was more afraid of spiders than the English team seemed to be true as USA galloped to a brilliant start. While they largely dominated the game, England found a brilliant chance in the final seconds of the match, but captain Harry Kane’s header went wide of the post.

In terms of match stats, England took 8 shots while USA took 10, took 3 corners against USA’s 7. It certainly looked like that USA soccer dominated English football, but the teams could not be separated in goals.

England were supposed to be the dominant side in the first half of the match, but that turned out far from the truth as USA looked comfortable on the ball and took attack to the Harry Kane side.

Christian Pulisic was the glowing star in the first 40 minutes of the game, making multiple runs and hitting the crossbar with a strong left footed shot. USA’s football looked attractive in their first match against Wales, and they continued the same using the width to good effect. USA would have been kicking themselves at the end of the half for not converting as they remained ahead of England in the number of shots taken at the goal.

England looked good in patches in the first 45 minutes, but the lacked substance in the final third. The only test that the USA goalkeeper was put to was in the final play of the first half, when Mason Mount’s shot was parried away from the bottom right corner.

After the game, England remained in the top of their group with 4 points, while USA were in third position with 2 points to their name.
