France’s star striker Karim Benzema has broken his silence after the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner was ruled out of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Saturday.

News broke late at night on Saturday that Benzema had suffered a knock during training and was forced to leave the session to get treatment. There were reports suggesting that the injury wasn’t good and that the French forward could miss the tournament.

The France Football Federation then confirmed the heartbreaking news that the Real Madrid striker will be unavailable for the World Cup as Les Blues defend their crown in Qatar.

“Hit in the quadriceps of the left thigh, the Real Madrid striker is forced to give up participating in the World Cup. Karim Benzema was forced to cut short the collective training session after feeling pain in the quadriceps of his left thigh.”

“He went for an MRI at a hospital in Doha, which unfortunately confirmed a femoral rectus injury, which will require a three-week recovery period.

“After having exchanged with Dr. Franck Le Gall then the Real Madrid striker, Didier Deschamps recorded Karim Benzema’s package for the World Cup.”

Now, Benzema has broken his silence and put up a post on Instagram to talk about him being ruled out of the World Cup. The 34-year-old said that in life, he is someone who never gives up but unfortunately he has to leave his place in the squad and let someone else take it who can help France’s bid in retaining their crown. He also thanked everyone for their support.

“In my life, I never give up but tonight I have to think about the team like I always do so the reason tells me to leave my place to someone who can help our team to make a great world cup. Thank you for all your messages of support,” said Benzema.

Benzema is the latest to join a long list of stars who will not be at the World Cup for France. The defending Champions were already without Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante before the squad was announced and went on to lose Presnel Kimpembe and Christopher Nkunku to injuries.
