CR Kesavan, grandson of India’s first Indian Governor-General, C Rajagopalachari, resigned from Congress on Thursday after serving the party for over two decades.

In a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Kesavan started with how he joined Congress, leaving behind a career abroad in 2001.

“Driven by an ideology that was all inclusive and committed to the goal of incremental national transformation, I joined the Congress Party in 2001,” read the letter.

“I am truly sad to say that for a while now I have not seen any vestiges of the values that made me work for the party with dedication for over two decades. I can no longer in good conscience say that I concur with what the party presently symbolises,” said CR Kesavan in the letter.

Highlighting the reason behind his exit from the grand old party, Kesavan said that he can no longer “concur with what the party presently symbolizes”.

Kesavan also set the record straight by saying that he is not in talks with any other party and doesn’t know what future holds for him.
