Former US President Donald Trump is back on Twitter a day after the micro-blogging site’s new owner, Elon Musk, conducted a poll asking people whether Trump should be reinstated on Twitter or not.

“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated,” Musk tweeted. He also used the Latin phrase, “Vox Populi, Vox Dei”, which literally translates as “the voice of the people is the voice of God”.

On Saturday, Elon Musk started a Twitter poll. He asked, “Reinstate former President Trump?” The results saw a narrow margin between those who chose ‘Yes’ over those who opposed his return to the micro-blogging site. About 51.8 per cent of the users want the former US president to come back on Twitter.

Musk had earlier reinstated accounts tied to conservative media personality Jordan Peterson and the satirical website Babylon Bee. These reinstatements come after Musk said last month that Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints”. He added, “No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes.”

Elon Musk conducted this poll at a time when Twitter has been marred by a spell of retrenchment and exits. Less than three weeks after Musk’s takeover, nearly half of the staff has been asked to leave.

‘NO INTEREST IN RETURNING TO TWITTER’

Donald Trump on Saturday said he had no interest in returning to Twitter, who was banned from the social media service for inciting violence.

“I don’t see any reason for it,” the former president said when asked whether he planned to return to Twitter by a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting, as reported by Reuters.

He said he would stick with his new platform Truth Social, the app developed by his Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) startup, which he said had better user engagement than Twitter and was doing “phenomenally well”.
