Taapsee Pannu’s Dobaaraa opened to great reviews, but the same is not evident at the box office collection.

Facing stiff competition from Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan, Anurag Kashyap’s Dobaaraa has earned a mere Rs 60 lakh. According to reports, the theatre occupancy has been around 2-3 per cent, which is way below expectations.

TAAPSEE PANNU’S DOBAARAA DAY 1 COLLECTION
Taapsee Pannu’s Dobaaraa has collected a mere Rs 60 lakh on Day 1, according to a report by sacnilk.com. While Taapsee is being lauded for her performance, it looks like the film has failed to generate curiosity among the audience. Due to the bad word of mouth, many shows of the film were canceled, and many theatres were empty on Friday.

The film marks Anurag Kashyap’s return to thrillers.

DOBAARAA REGISTERES LOW OCCUPANCY, SHOWS CANCELLED
Sumit Kadel, a film trade analyst, took to Twitter to reveal that Dobaaraa’s shows are getting cancelled. “#Dobaaraa is off to a DISASTROUS start at the box office, film is registering merely 2-3% occupancy while many early shows are getting canceled due to NO AUDIENCE..(sic),” he tweeted.

TAAPSEE, ANURAG ON CANCEL CULTURE
Prior to the film’s release, Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap had commented on the cancel culture and boycott calls for Hindi films. Cheekily responding to a question about the boycott trend prevalent in Bollywood, Taapsee told IndiaToday.in, “Please everyone boycott our film, Dobaaraa. I want to be in the same league as Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan. I feel left out.”

Adding to the same, Anurag stated, “Yes please, I want our film to trend on the boycott hashtag as well.” The duo further asked, “I want to know if those people who call for a boycott are the ones who even watch films in theatres?”

Dobaaraa is the official remake of the 2018 Spanish film, Mirage.
