Delhi’s air quality showed a slight improvement as it entered the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday.

The average AQI recorded at 6 am stood at 389, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted relief due to a likely improvement in meteorological conditions under the influence of a western disturbance expected to affect northwest India starting Sunday.

As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data recorded at 7 am, the air quality in RK Puram was recorded at 391, at 372 in New Moti Bagh, and at 360 in the IGI Airport area.

However, in a few areas, the air quality remains in the ‘severe’ category, with AQI standing above 400, including Nehru Nagar at 425, Anand Nagar at 433, 434 in Ashok Nagar, and Jahangirpuri at 450.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, 401 and 450 severe, and above 450 severe-plus.

The 24-hour average AQI, recorded at 4 pm every day, was 389 on Saturday, 415 on Friday, 390 on Thursday, 394 on Wednesday, 365 on Tuesday, 348 on Monday and 301 on Sunday (November 19).

The national capital has recorded 10 severe air quality days this November so far.

The city recorded just three severe air quality days in November last year, while it experienced 12 such days in 2021, the maximum in the month since the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) began monitoring.
