Dhanush, who made his debut as an actor in 2002, is now a world-famous actor.
Not just pan-India, he also forayed into Hollywood and started making a name for himself. In 20 years, he has delivered several blockbusters, won National Awards for his performances and several accolades. After receiving praise for The Gray Man, Dhanush is gearing up for the release of his upcoming commercial venture, Thiruchitrambalam, which is slated for a grand release on August 18.
In this piece, let us take a look at Dhanush’s fee per film, income sources and his net worth in the Tamil market.
HOW MUCH DOES DHANUSH CHARGE PER FILM?
Dhanush is one of the highest-paid actors in the Tamil film industry. Reportedly, the actor charged around Rs 12 to 15 crore for director Mithran Jawahar’s Thiruchitrambalam. A lot is riding on this film as his last few releases failed to rake in the moolah.
His last theatrical release that managed to mint money was director Mari Selvaraj’s Karnan. Pattas failed to become a blockbuster. In the OTT space, The Gray Man and Jagame Thandhiram managed to impress a few people. However, Maaran turned out to be a damp squib. Hence, Thiruchitrambalam’s success in theatres will be a huge boost for Dhanush’s career.
Speaking exclusively to IndiaToday.in, trade analyst Ramesh Bala said, “It is difficult to gauge the buzz surrounding Thiruchitrambalam. Since Sun Pictures is bankrolling the venture, they are promoting the film in a low-key manner. The film is guaranteed a good opening because of Dhanush. We have to wait and see how Thiruchitrambalam performs in theatres. Simbu scored a hit with Maanaadu. Similarly, Sivakarthikeyan and Karthi tasted success with Don and Viruman. Now, all eyes are on Dhanush.”
WILL DHANUSH HIKE HIS FEE POST THE GRAY MAN?
Dhanush played a brief role in the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man and it is said that the actor charged Rs 4 crore (approx) for the same. Basking in the film’s success, the Russo Brothers announced a sequel with the actor and fans can’t keep calm.
Will this push Dhanush to increase his fee? Ramesh Bala doesn’t think so. “Dhanush quotes his salary on a project-to-project basis. Obviously, he got paid well for The Gray Man. But, he cannot hike his fee in India because their [Netflix’s] budget is on a different level. For his upcoming film Vaathi, which is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, he could have charged Rs 5 crore more since it is made in two languages. But, The Gray Man will not affect the actor’s standing in the market as he is already a leading star.”
DHANUSH’S NET WORTH
Going by the Forbes India report (2019), Dhanush’s earnings amounted to Rs 31.75 crore. According to the latest reports, his net worth in 2022 is around Rs 160 crore. An official confirmation on the same is still awaited.
DHANUSH’S PRIZED POSSESSIONS
The actor owns a lavish house worth Rs 25 crore in Poes Garden, one of the poshest locations in Chennai. He gave a glimpse of his house in his Instagram posts. Check it out:
Apart from the Poes Garden house, Dhanush is a proud owner of four luxury cars. His cars include Rolls Royce Ghost (worth Rs 6.95 crore), Range Rover Sport HSE (worth Rs 1.50 crore), Mercedes Benz S Class S 350 (worth Rs 1.42 crore) and Jaguar XJ L (worth Rs 1.11 crore).
DHANUSH’S INCOME SOURCES
Dhanush is one actor who doesn’t rely on brand endorsements or social media. His primary income is through his films and his production house, Wunderbar Films.
“He keeps himself very busy and doesn’t take frequent breaks. He doesn’t depend much on endorsements or social media. I think he does 5 to 6 films in a year. With a promising line-up, Dhanush’s career looks bright,” concluded Ramesh Bala.
Dhanush has Selvaraghavan’s Naane Varuven, Venky Atluri’s Vaathi (Sir in Telugu), Arun Matheswaran’s Captain Miller and The Gray Man’s sequel.
