Indian-origin Republican leader Nikki Haley took to Twitter on Tuesday to say that Covid likely came from a Chinese lab and asked to cut US aid to Beijing.
“Not a cent to Communist China,” said Nikki Haley further in her tweet.
The tweet came after the United States’ Energy Department said that the coronavirus most likely arose from a laboratory in China.
The Energy Department was previously unsure about the origin of the virus. However, in an update to a 2021 document by Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines’s office, the report highlights how different parts of the intelligence community have arrived at disparate judgments about the pandemic’s origin.
Nikki Haley, who recently announced her 2024 Presidential bid, earlier vowed to cut billions in foreign aid sent to China and other US adversaries.
She said, “I will cut every cent in foreign aid sent to our enemies. Biden administration resumed military aid to Pakistan and American taxpayers still give money to Communist China for ridiculous environment programs.”
In an opinion piece that she wrote on February 24 for a daily tabloid, Nikki Haley criticised both the Democratic and Republican presidential administrations for how they handled foreign aid, noting that the United States spent $46 billion in 2022 to help countries like Iraq, Pakistan, and China.
