The Calcutta High Court on Sunday ordered that the post-mortem of the 11-year-old girl.
Who was allegedly raped and murdered in West Bengal’s Jaynagar be carried out at Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial (JNM) hospital in Kalyani tomorrow (October 7) The girl went missing on Friday night and was found dead in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.
A team from AIIMS Kalyani will conduct the autopsy using the facilities at JNM Hospital, with the process overseen by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Baruipur.
The development comes after the victim’s family expressed disagreement with conducting the autopsy at a state-run facility.
The High Court has further directed that, should the parents request it, they may observe the proceedings virtually from outside the post-mortem room.
If they prefer not to participate, a separate, comfortable space will be arranged for them nearby, the bench stated.
The court also said that the AIIMS Kalyani doctors, upon completing the autopsy, must update the family directly on the findings.
Meanwhile, the police sources revealed that the accused arrested in the case has confessed to murder; however, he has denied raping her.
During questioning, the accused, Mostakin Sardar, revealed that he had tried to rape the girl but killed her after she resisted his attempts.
He then disposed of her body in a nearby canal, police sources told India Today TV. A murder case was lodged, and police are awaiting the victim’s autopsy report.
