‘Chose Peace And Love’: Fed Up With Alcoholic Husbands, 2 UP Women Marry Each Other

Two women left their homes and married each other in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur after being distraught with their alcoholic spouses.

Kavita and Gunja married each other at the Shiva Temple, famously known as Choti Kashi, in Deoria. Both of them connected with each other on Instagram and became friends. Before getting married, the women were in touch with each other for six years.

Both the women were fed up with their husbands’ drinking habits and shared instances of domestic violence with each other. During the marriage, Gunja took on the role of the groom and placed vermillion (sindoor) on Kavita’s forehead, exchanged garlands with her and performed the pheras.

Gunja said as per news agency PTI, “We were tormented by our husbands’ drinking and abusive behaviour. This pushed us to choose a life of peace and love. We have decided to live in Gorakhpur as a couple and work to sustain ourselves.”

The women said they are determined to stay together. They currently do not have a permanent home and are plan to rent a place to live.
