Asian Games 2023: India win bronze in men’s 3000m relay in speed skating

The India men’s team, on Monday, October 2, won the bronze medal in the 3000m relay event in speed staking in the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Aryanpal Singh Ghuman, Anandkumar Velkumar, Siddhant Rahul Kamble and Vikram Rajendra Ingale finished with a timing of 4:10.128 at the Qiantang Roller Sports Centre.

Taiwan won the gold medal after the quartet of Tsu-Cheng Chao, Yu-Lin Huang, Yan-Cheng Chen and Fu-Shiuan Ko finished with a timing of 4:05.692.

Korea won the silver medal with a timing 4:05.702. The Korean team comprised Gwangho Choi, Inho Choi, Cheolwon Jung and Byeonghee Jeong.

Prior to the men’s team, it was the women’s team that won the bronze medal in the 3000m relay. Sanjana Bathula, Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu and Aarathy Kasturi Raj finished with a timing of 1:46.79.

Taiwan and Korea won the gold and silver medals with timings of 4:19.447 and 4:21.146 respectively. Their victory added to India’s growing medal tally at the games, contributing to the overall count of 55 medals – 13 gold, 21 silver, and 21 bronze.

This was India’s third-ever medal in the roller skating event at the Asian Games, following two bronze medals won at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games in the men’s free skating and pairs skating events.

These victories are not only a testament to the athletes’ hard work and dedication, but also a significant boost for the sport of roller skating in India. The achievements of both teams have put Indian roller skating on the global map, paving the way for future generations of skaters in the country.
