Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone call with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis Friday and expressed appreciation for the momentum in bilateral ties following recent high-level exchanges.

An official statement said on Saturday that the two leaders reiterated their firm commitment to further strengthening the India-Greece strategic partnership. In his call to Modi, Mitsotakis warmly congratulated him on his re-election in the general elections.

“Yesterday, had a productive conversation with PM @kmitsotakis, reaffirming our shared commitment to strengthening the India-Greece Strategic Partnership. Together, we aim to deepen our collaboration across trade, defence, shipping and connectivity. Greece is a valued partner for India within the EU as well,” Modi said in a post on X.

They reviewed the progress in a number of areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade, defence, shipping and connectivity, in a follow-up to Mitsotakis’s visit to India earlier this year. The two leaders also exchanged views on various regional and global issues of interest, including the IMEEC (India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor) and developments in West Asia, the statement said.

After PM Modi’s official visit to the Hellenic Republic last August, both sides agreed to upgrade bilateral ties to the level of a “Strategic Partnership” and to further expand cooperation in the political, security, and economic spheres. During this visit, both leaders shared their vision for a free, open, and rules-based Mediterranean Sea and Indo-Pacific.

According to a joint statement, both leaders noted that the EU and India represent the largest democratic and free market spaces in the world, agreeing that deepening EU-India relations would be mutually beneficial and positively impact the globe. The two Prime Ministers had also expressed strong support for the ongoing India-EU trade and investment negotiations and the early implementation of the India-EU Connectivity Partnership.
