Melania Trump calls husband’s survival of two assassination attempts ‘miracles’
In her first television interview in more than two years, former First Lady Melania Trump, wife of former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, expressed relief over.
Her husband’s survival of two assassination attempts, calling the incidents “miracles”, while also sharing her anger over the FBI’s raid on their Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Speaking with Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt on Fox & Friends, Melania recalled the harrowing moment she learned about the first assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Former President Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet fired by a would-be assassin, and Melania, 54, described the fear and confusion she felt upon seeing the incident on television.
“I ran to the TV and I rewound it, and I watched it,” she said. “When you see him on the floor and you don’t know what really happened… It was terrifying.”
She also detailed the moment she found out about the second attempt on her husband’s life, which occurred on September 15 while Trump was golfing near their Mar-a-Lago home. The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene.
Melania, who was in New York City at the time, said, “As soon as I saw it on television I called again, and he was OK, because Secret Service were great.”
She emphasised the miraculous nature of both events.
“I think both of the events were really miracles. If you really think about it, July 13 was a miracle. That much and he could, you know, he could not be with us,” she said, illustrating how close the bullet came to Trump’s head.
The former first lady also opened up about her frustration over the FBI’s August 2022 raid on Mar-a-Lago, part of an investigation into her husband’s alleged mishandling of classified documents.
“Yeah, it made me angry,” she said, calling the raid an “invasion of privacy.”
She described returning to her Florida home to find her personal belongings searched, including her wardrobe and even her son Barron’s room.
“I saw unpleasant stuff that nobody wants to see,” she said. “And you get angry because nobody should be putting up with that kind of stuff.”
Melania expressed disbelief over the invasion, saying, “Some person – I don’t even know who or how many people – went through my stuff.”
