Hockey: India to face world champions Germany in Delhi for 2 Tests series

India and Germany are all set to renew their rivalry on the hockey field as the defending World Champions and Olympics 2024 silver medallist will arrive in Delhi for a 2-Test series.

The matches will take place at the Major Dhyan Chand National stadium in New Delhi from 23-24 October 2024. India and Germany had faced off in the Olympics 2024 hockey semi-finals, where the world champions had emerged victorious 3-2.

Following that loss, India went on to win the bronze medal match in Paris against Spain and retained their Asian Champions Trophy title, winning all the matches in the tournament. The announcement was made by Hockey India via their social media accounts.

“After a heart-stopping encounter at the Paris 2024 Olympics. two hockey powerhouses – India and Germany – are set to face off once more! This time, it’s on India’s home turf for an electrifying two-match series on October 23-24, 2024, at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.”

Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey said that the series will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey and the fans will get a chance to witness intense competition between the two sides.

“This bilateral series against Germany will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey. Both India and Germany have a rich history in the sport, and this series will give fans an opportunity to witness an intense competition between two of the most formidable teams in the world. We are honoured to host this event, which will not only promote the spirit of hockey but also strengthen the bond between the two nations,” said Tirkey.

In the 19 matches since 2013, India has won 8 against Germany, while the current world champions have won 7. 4 matches have ended in draws so far.
