Rahul Gandhi jabs BJP over Kangana Ranaut’s farmers’ remark: Gross insult to them

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday chided the BJP-led central government over.

Actor-politician and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s controversial remarks on the farmers’ protests, saying it amounted to a “gross insult” to farmers and that such statements were a “proof of the BJP’s anti-farmer intentions”.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of not fulfilling the promises made to the farmers and said its “propaganda machinery” was continuously engaged in insulting farmers.

“The BJP MP calling the farmers, of which 700 died during the 378-day marathon struggle, as rapists and representatives of foreign forces is another proof of the BJP’s anti-farmer policy and intentions,” he tweeted in Hindi.

“These shameful anti-farmer statements are a gross insult to the farmers of the entire country, including western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, which cannot be accepted under any circumstances,” the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said.

Asserting that farmers’ “character assassination” was continuing, Rahul Gandhi said the government committee formed after the farmers’ protest was “still in cold storage” and that the Centre was not able to clarify its stand on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.

“The government committee formed at the time of withdrawing the farmers’ movement is still in cold storage. The government has not been able to clarify its stand on MSP to date and no relief has been given to the families of the martyred farmers and on top of that, their character assassination is continuing,” he said.

“The betrayal of farmers by the Modi government cannot be hidden by disrespecting the food providers and attacking their dignity. No matter how much Narendra Modi and BJP conspire, INDIA will ensure legal guarantee of MSP for farmers,” the former Congress president further said.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait voiced Rahul Gandhi’s sentiments and said that Kangana Ranaut’s remarks on farmers were an insult to “the martyred farmers and crores of others” living in the country.

“There was no violence in the 13-month-long farmers’ movement despite the presence of 400 farmers’ organisations and lakhs of farmers. More than 700 farmers were martyred, but the farmers did not lose patience. The (farm law) bills were withdrawn. BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement about it is an insult to the martyred farmers and crores of farmers of the country,” he tweeted.
