Former US President Bill Clinton on Wednesday (local time) said.

That the country faced a “clear choice” between Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and former president and her Republican opponent Donald Trump, while referring to him as the “other guy”. Clinton accused Trump for “creating chaos” during his presidency, saying he “curates it”.

Delivering a speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Clinton, who was the president from 1993 to 2001, praised Harris and said she would make sure that every American would get a chance to “chase their dreams”.

“In 2024, we have got a pretty clear choice, it seems to me. Kamala Harris, for the people, and the other guy, who has proved even more than the first go-around that he’s about me, myself and I,” Clinton said while referring to Trump.

“Kamala Harris will work to solve our problems, seize our opportunities, ease our fears, and make sure every single American, however they vote, has a chance to chase their dreams,” he added.

However, Clinton warned Democrats that they should not be “overconfident” and said one should never underestimate their opponent, adding that they should be tough to handle any situation that goes against them.

“One of the reasons that president-to-be Harris is doing so well is that we’re all so happy,” he adds. “But you should never underestimate your opponent,” he was quoted by BBC as saying.

Asserting that the Trump campaign are experts at sowing doubt, Clinton said, “We’ve got to be tough. I urge you to talk to all of your neighbours. I urge you to meet people where they are.”

Sharpening his attack on Trump, Clinton said he was not seen by other countries and that he “created chaos” and then “curates it”.

“The next time you hear him, don’t count the lies — count the I’s. He’s like one of those tenors opening up before he walks out on stage trying to get his lungs open by saying: me, me, me, me. When Kamala Harris is president, every day will begin with you, you, you,” the former president said.

Clinton, who turned 78 on August 19, took a dig at Trump over his age amid a previous controversy over President Joe Biden’s age and health concerns while he was in the presidential race.

“I actually turned 78 two days ago. The only personal vanity I want to assert is that I’m still younger than Donald Trump,” he said amid cheers from the crowd.

Praising Biden for his decision to leave office and not seek re-election, Clinton compared the President’s legacy with that of George Washington. “He healed our sick and put the rest of us back to work,” he said.

Clinton says he was “moved” by the nomination of Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, BBC reported.

“That could only happen here. Their careers started in community courtrooms and classrooms,” the former President said.

He called the presidential election “the greatest job interview, for the greatest job in the world”.

“We, the people, get to do the hiring. And every four years, we get to change the requirements of the job,” he said.

The DNC began on August 19 in Chicago and several high-profile speakers, including Harris, the Obamas, Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Waltz is expected to speak later today. The convention will go on till August 22 (Friday).

The presidential election will be held on November 5.
