India and Sri Lanka are all set to lock horns in the summit clash of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 on Sunday, July 28 in Dambulla.

Sri Lanka will be desperate to make amends as they have lost all their five finals against India in the history of the tournament, in 2004, 2005-06, 2006, 2008 and 2022. Come 2024, the Islanders will again go into the final as the underdogs.

India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, have not put a foot wrong as they are unbeaten in the tournament. The seven-time champions have dictated terms to every other team in the championship and are looking good to lift their eighth title. The only time India missed winning the Asia Cup was in 2018 when they lost to Bangladesh in the final.

In the semis of the ongoing edition, India hammered Nigar Sultana Joty’s Bangladesh by 10 wickets. Radha Yadav and Renuka Singh’s three-wicket hauls restricted their opponents to 80 for eight in 20 overs. Thereafter, Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 55 took them past the finish line.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are also unbeaten, but need to be on top of their game to have any chance of beating India. The hosts started their campaign with three comprehensive wins, but they had to fight out of their skins to beat Pakistan, where they came up trumps by three wickets.

Chamari Athapaththu is in the form of her life as she is the top run-scorer of the tournament with 243 runs at an average of 148.17. It goes without saying that the southpaw needs to fire for Sri Lanka to have any chance of taking down India.
