After a mixed opening day in the Paris Olympics, Team India will look to open its account on Sunday, July 28 with shooters and archers in medal events.

Manu Bhaker will headline the day’s action after becoming the first Indian female shooter in 20 years to qualify for the final in the Olympics. The 22-year-old will compete in the women’s 10m air pistol final in the afternoon.

Manu Bhaker will be eyeing redemption when she is in action at Chateauroux Shooting Centre. The decorated shooter failed to qualify for the Tokyo Games final in the same event due to a malfunctioning pistol. On Sunday, she can become the first-ever Indian female shooter to win an Olympic medal and India’s 12-year wait for a podium finish in shooting at the Games.

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will begin her quest for a hat-trick of medals at the Games when she takes on Pakistan’s Fatimath Abdul Razzaq in her first match in the group stage.

The women’s archery team of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur will have a shot at a historic archery medal. After an impressive showing in the Ranking Round on Thursday, July 25, the trio qualified for the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, India’s youngest participant at Paris Olympics Dhinidhi Desinghu will be in action in women’s 200m freestyle swimming heats. Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, one of India’s brightest medal prospects, will also begin her campaign in the women’s 50kg boxing event.

The rifle shooters, meanwhile, will look to put behind the disappointment of failing to qualify for the mixed team event when they are in action in the individual qualification round on Sunday.

Sumit Nagal will begin his campaign in tennis while Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji will compete in their men’s doubles first-round match, which was postponed due to wet weather in Paris on Friday.
