Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar in a recent interview revealed that he drew upon his own emotional experiences to act in his latest film ‘Sarfira’.

He shared that he recalled his father’s death during the filming of ‘Sarfira’s emotional scenes. The ‘Airlift’ actor also expressed how reliving the grief of his father’s death allowed him to act as ‘authentically’ as possible. He also mentioned how hard it was for him to get out of that particular emotion after the scene.

In an interview with Baradwaj Rangan on Galatta Plus, Akshay stated, “There are many things in the film that I could relate to. This character lost his father and the trauma he went through. When that scene was happening, to be honest, I went into that kind of trauma, recalling when I lost my father. I don’t use glycerine to cry; I use my own emotions to cry. When you see the film, you’ll see that I’m really crying because I’ve gone into that mood.”

He continued, “There were times when Sudha Kongara Prasad (‘Sarfira’ director) would say ‘cut’, and my head would still be down, because I was still crying. It isn’t easy to come out of that emotion. I’ve gone far away, and I know in the back of my mind that she’s called ‘cut’, but it’s very difficult to bring it back (to reality). I used to request her to take longer shots because then I’m staying with the same emotion. You’re gone away from that emotion, and you have to get back again. It gets very difficult. Sudha was kind enough to use two-three cameras.”

‘Sarfira’ released in theatres today, 12 July 2024. The story follows a man who sets out to make affordable airlines for low-income people. The film is the Hindi remake of Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’. It also stars Radhika Madan in a key role.
