Indeed layoffs: Job site announces second round of layoffs, 8% workforce cut

Indeed announced plans to lay off approximately 1,000 employees, which accounts for around 8% of its workforce, in an effort to streamline its operations.

CEO Chris Hyams took responsibility for these job cuts, explaining that the company is still going through the consequences of reduced hiring activity worldwide last year, leading to a decline in sales.

This round of layoffs follows a previous reduction of 2,200 employees last year, when Indeed tried to control costs due to a slowdown in revenue.

In a public memo, Hyams clarified that unlike last year’s widespread reduction, this round of cuts will primarily impact employees in the US.

The teams most affected will be those involved in research and development, as well as go-to-market functions.

The objective of these layoffs, Hyams explained, is to address the issue of having “too many organisational layers” within the company.

“We have been striving to simplify every aspect of our business, but without substantial change, we cannot achieve our goals,” said Hyams.

He assured that the company is committed to working closely with its human resources, legal, and diversity, equity, and inclusion teams to ensure that these layoffs do not disproportionately affect underrepresented groups.

Hyams mentioned that an updated organisational structure will be shared at a later date to reflect these changes.
